Welcome to the RapidMap 2.2 site

12/01/08 - Added the Rapid City area 2008 color orthophotos. These were taken in April 2008. Additional photos from the county area will be added as they are processed. The older black and white photos are still available in the map layers window.

04/11/08 - RapidMap 2.2 is now operational and the help files have been updated. The coordinate display at the bottom of the application gives you the state plane eastings and northings in feet, and the longitude and latitude in degrees-minutes-seconds. There is also a "zoom to lat/lon" button that becomes visible once you click the "Navigate" button. All lat/lon coordinates are in NAD83/96, which is comparable to the WGS84 coordinates that a GPS gives you. The state plane coordinates are SD state plane feet, south zone, NAD83/96.

07/26/05 - Added the Rapid City historic districts. They are set to become available when you zoom in to about a one square mile area (1:20,000). You must turn them on using the map layers window. They have been set to partly transparent, so you can still see the aerial photos underneath them.

08/30/04 - Issues with Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Service Pack 2 installs additional security functionality in Microsoft Internet Explorer. RapidMap seems to handle these changes fairly well. The one problem noted thus far concerns the "Identify Features" button . Clicking on this button results in the message "Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up or additional options click here..." directly above the the toolbar in the RapidMap window. To work around this problem, click on the message and choose "Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site..." When asked if you want to allow pop-ups from the site, click Yes. All subsequent RapidMap pop-ups should work fine.
